PATRICIA GOMEZ
Patricia was born in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and currently lives in USA.
Patricia has been doing artwork in some form all of her life. Oil and acrylic painting is the media of her choice.
She is a realistic artist and her harmonious palette creates quietly powerful and dramatic paintings. She applies her sense of design and composition by combining her strong drawing background, her knowledge in Fine Art, Graphic Design and Illustration on her paintings.
She likes to transform ordinary subjects or common places into a higher reality and give them great importance; she converts her canvasses into very powerful and beautiful visual experiences by creating tri-dimensional-looking paintings, using the placement of objects, the spaces between things, the light and depth.
She communicates with her paintings: elegance, romanticism and peace with a sense of magical dramatic quality. Mainly her subjects are from everyday life, idyllic landscapes, figures in contemplative isolation from her own compositions. She also enjoys narrative paintings.
Patricia has degrees in Fine Art, Computer Art and Graphic Design and Illustration.
She has been training at the Romero-Hidalgo Artist’s Studio in Miami, Florida and she constantly attends seminars and continues to study the Classical Techniques of the Masters as well as Portrait painting. Also she attended the Cecilia Porras’ Art Studio in Bogota, Colombia, trained at the Enrique Grau’s studio while she lived in Cartagena de Indias. She has been an apprentice with Chenco (her husband) for many years.
Her paintings are in private and public collections.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I search for beauty and try to capture moments of inner peace with a sense of mystery in my artwork. I am concerned with forms, spatial and atmospheric moods, contrasts of light and dark and exploring the endless possibilities of composition.
In each of my paintings, I am trying to find the beauty in that twilight, magical, dramatic place between reality and unreality of the visual world and pursuing images that motivates my works.
I am dedicated to the study of the human form and the history of traditional classical painting and drawing techniques. For me learning these techniques is an endless journey.
